Choosing the Right Necklace Length

Choosing the Right Necklace Length

Choosing the right necklace length can make a big difference in how it looks and feels.

A necklace that fits well sits beautifully, feels comfortable, and complements your outfit. Measuring your neck correctly is quick and easy—and helps ensure you choose the perfect length.

Why Neck Measurement Matters

Your neck size affects where the necklace sits on your neck or collarbone, as well as the overall comfort, especially for everyday wear. It also influences how layered necklaces fall and the balance and proportions of your look.

Accurate measurements are especially important for chokers and shorter necklaces. If you’re unsure after measuring, you’re very welcome to contact me with any additional questions.

Measuring Your Neck

What You’ll Need

  • A soft measuring tape (tailor’s tape)
  • Or a piece of string or ribbon
  • A ruler
  • A mirror (optional)

Step-by-Step: How to Measure Your Neck

  1. Stand naturally
Keep your head straight and your shoulders relaxed.
  2. Wrap the measuring tape around your neck
Place it around the base of your neck. The tape should rest comfortably against your skin without squeezing.
  3. Read the measurement
Note the number in centimetres where the tape meets. This is your neck circumference.
  4. Add extra length for comfort
    • Add 2–5 cm for a comfortable necklace fit
    • Add 1–2 cm for a choker, depending on how close you want it to sit

Example:
My neck base measurement is 41 cm, and a 43 cm necklace is a snuggy choker (in the picture). If I want the necklace to lie on my collarbones, I take the one that is 5 cm longer, so 46 cm.

Sizing used at SNSS:

  • S: 40 cm
  • M: 42 cm
  • L: 44 cm
  • XL: 46 cm

The length shown in the product dropdown always refers to the total length of the necklace, including the clasp and all components. This means you should choose your size by adding extra length to your neck measurement, depending on how you want the necklace to sit.

Example:
If your neck measures 36 cm, a 38 cm necklace will be a comfortable choker, while 40 cm necklace will rest lightly on your collarbones.

The exact overall length is always listed in the product dropdown. All extra or custom sizes are made at no additional cost, from 35 to 50 cm.

Common Necklace Lengths (cm)

  • 35–40 cm: Choker, worn close to the neck
  • 45 cm: Sits at the collarbone (most popular length)
  • 50–55 cm: Below the collarbone
  • 60 cm and longer: Long / mala styles

Tips for the Best Fit

  • Consider your neck shape and body proportions
  • Think about the necklines you wear most often
  • Remember that pendants add visual length
  • If unsure, choose an adjustable chain for flexibility
