How to measure your ankle for the perfect anklet?

Anklets, also known as ankle or leg bracelets, are timeless and stylish accessories. To ensure your anklet is comfortable and looks great, it’s important to choose the right size. Follow this simple guide to get it right.

Step 1: Gather your tools

You’ll need:

  • A measuring tape or a piece of string
  • A ruler (if using string)
  • Paper and pen (to note your measurements)

Step 2: Choose the right spot

Anklets are usually worn just above or below the ankle bone. Decide where you’d like the anklet to sit—this could be the most comfortable spot or the one that best suits your style.

Step 3: Measure your ankle

Option 1: Using a measuring tape

  • Wrap the measuring tape around the chosen spot on your ankle.
  • Ensure it’s snug but not too tight or loose.
  • Note the measurement in centimetres or inches.

Option 2: Using string

  • Wrap a piece of string around your ankle at the desired spot.
  • Mark where the ends meet.
  • Lay the string flat and measure its length with a ruler.
  • Note the measurement.

Include your measurement in the comments when ordering, or select your preferred anklet size from the list provided.

Step 4: Add slack

For elastic anklets:
If you’re concerned about swelling, add 1–2 cm for extra comfort.

For clasp anklets:
No slack is needed. Measure your ankle at the desired spot and either select a size from the list or include your measurement in the comments when ordering.

I always include a suitable slack when making anklets and can add an extension chain free of charge if you’re unsure about sizing.

Step 5: Determine your anklet size

Here are common anklet size references:

  • 20–21 cm: XS/S
  • 22–23 cm:
  • 24–25 cm: L
  • 26–27 cm: XL (Typical men’s size)

Additional Tips

  • Measure in the Evening: Ankles may swell during the day, so it’s best to measure in the evening for an accurate fit.
  • Choose Comfortable Materials: Select materials that feel good against your skin, especially for extended wear.
  • Consider an Extension Chain:  If you’re unsure or have ankles prone to swelling, you can request a free extension chain for added flexibility, or to make your anklet on an elastic band.
